Description
Artists, designers, and architects have trusted Staedtler Mars pencils for more than a century. The iconic blue Lumograph 100 Drawing Pencil is the flagship of the fleet — it is one of the most refined and complete lines of pencils manufactured anywhere in the world. Available in an incredible selection of grades, from ultra-ultra-soft 12B to dangerously-sharp 10H, Lumograph delivers consistent tones and smooth action on all kinds of paper.
Like all top-quality pencils, Lumograph is made from sustainably-harvested California incense cedar. This incredible, renewable tree has been a prized American export for many years, and quality pencil manufacturers from Japan to Tennessee use it in their pencils. You can identify real incense cedar by the aroma when sharpened, the reddish color, and the distinctive grain pattern. It sharpens cleaner and warps less than cheaper wood, and it provides the perfect body for an artist pencil.
Inside the cedar body, Staedtler’s world-famous graphite cores are bonded to the wood using a process that completely adheres the exterior of the core to the interior of the pencil. This prevents the graphite core from cracking during sharpening or use.
To make your bold lines bolder and your fine lines finer, Mars Lumograph 100 pencils have graphite cores in several different widths. The softest grade, 12B, has a 4.5 mm core. Grades 11B – 6B have cores approximately 3.6 mm wide. Grades 5B – 3B have 2.5 mm cores. And grades 2B – 10H all have 2.0 mm cores.

STAEDTLER: Pencil Innovation Since 1662
STAEDTLER is one of the world’s oldest and best pencil manufacturers. Since 1662, when Friedrich Staedtler was the first in Germany to bring all aspects of pencil manufacturing under the same roof, the STAEDTLER name has been closely associated with fine writing and drawing tools.
From the iconic Mars Lumograph pencil to new additions like Fimo clay, tinted graphite, and pigment pens, STAEDTLER products remain a popular presence in schools and offices around the world. Generations of artists have used blue Lumograph pencils to draft their masterpieces — most likely, some world-changing creative genius is sketching with one right this minute.
At St. Louis Art Supply, we’re proud to partner with heritage brands like Staedtler. In a world of dupes and questionable deals, the STAEDTLER name and world-famous Mars logo are a reassuring presence, pointing artists toward honest and high-quality supplies.
