Did you know that there are hidden colors inside your inks? When manufacturers make dye-based inks, they use a wide variety of colorants that separate and change when exposed to water. Artists often make use of these properties by drawing with fountain pens, then blending the ink with a wet brush.

With a Butterfly Chromatography Kit, you can make the colors of your favorite inks into poetic objects to collect and keep. Each butterfly is made from special filter paper, designed for chromatographic studies. Apply ink to the butterfly, then suspend it in water using a thin stick. You’ll see the color open up and reveal its undertones and shading tones.

The Mini kit (yellow envelope) includes two butterflies. The Plus kit (grey envelope) includes eight butterflies.
